Dead island android wallpaper

I haven't had a cell phone in over 2 years, I finally broke down and got one when I saw this android phone with a really nice plan. (not going into details on here but it was great for me). I had just picked up 2 copies of Dead Island for a friend and I to play off steam so I decided to commemorate my new phone with a dead island wallpaper. I rotoscoped a zombie from a screenshot and snagged an environment and the logo off the website.

The zombie android I found on a site that didn't provide details as to the original artist so I'll just provide the link here. (will have to suffice for credit to the original artist)

The exact phone is Samsung Intercept for Virgin Mobile so if you have that phone this wallpaper will fit fine, unsure about other phone screen resolutions. Feel free to snag this, I'm sure with mild tweaking it should work fine on other android phones.

I'm trying to teach myself game programming in "Stencylworks" over at stencyl.com

I worked on some tutorials for a couples days here and there off and on and today I sat down and hacked together a bunch of assets from their marketplace to make this simple platformer with only two screens and no enemies or anything...but the walking and screen changing and jumping works as well as sound trigger so...I'm proud of myself for getting THIS far. once I get the game figured out and coded I'll get to work replacing all the placeholder art...also the entire thing took less than 20 minutes to throw together during a break from my school work and "work" work.You can play my demo below, assuming I haven't deleted it from my drive.

Newgrounds Game jam 6

Decided to enter a game development competition on newgrounds this weekend that involved a random theme and random team members with various experience in FLASH with the entire game required to be developed in a single weekend.

The theme was hallucinations and I had a decent team, the coder was VERY young and unfortunately didn't have much experience and wasn't even available to help the first few days so we didn't finish in time/at all. (All that coupled with my not having used flash since 2006)

Had a good time actually working on a game though and will perhaps finish this soon, it was a good attempt and I made a few friends, also might start getting more involved in animation again. Good stuff!

On another side note we got to use something called PIPELINE, an amazing collaboration tool that I highly suggest to anyone.

Oddworld Inhabitants

Oddworld munch's oddysee came out 10 years ago...

I've always had a love of characters, organic creations in games, personalities. This is why I became a character artist, love love love it. Oddworld Inhabitants was one of those companies that assured me I wouldn't have to remake the same tony hawk model or football player over and over again, that sometimes...something unique happens.

I'm really happy to see that Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath is coming to the playstation network, even though I don't personally have a PS3.

Most mornings I jump into photoshop or maya or zbrush and do a quick practice model/sketch/painting, no more than an hour usually less.

This morning when I saw Oddworld Inhabitants post about Munch I decided to do a quick sculpt, very busy with school at the moment so I had to step away from it momentarily...but here is the work in progress shot. Hopefully I can get him all sculpted up and textured/retopologized correctly.

Again, if you are not a fan of these games I hope you at least appreciate the life and personality the company breathed into them.

Maybe I'll get to work on an amazing title like Oddworld some day but for now...back to work!

So I'm in a physics class and I was reading my text book earlier when I had a realization based on something I'd always thought about but could never pin point what it was I was feeling.

I realized that what I am to do in life is to inspire others who are capable of creating something that I am not capable of doing myself. I will use my artistic and creative mind to suggest and imagine things that someone out there can take farther than I ever could.

I am thinking if I could make film, post illustrations or create games, give speeches, mingle with scientists and physicists and doctors or whoever else has the training and knowledge and know-how to make happen what it is I am seeing in my mind. I don’t know why I didn’t think of this sooner, I’ve done this with programmers for years in game design. I think up features and write it down in what I later was told is called “pseudo code”. Perhaps there is a “pseudo schematic” or “pseudo blueprint” that can be created via my own understanding of the universe and the way things work.

Literature and film has been doing this for years, I just listened to Astro Physicist Michio Kaku say that the film 2001 space odyssey inspired him to imagine an easier way to explore the universe via robotic probes that could recreate themselves as they land on moons. Video games have inspired military processes and technology like this as well.

Why couldn’t I spend my life from here on out imagining someone taking my idea, no matter how fantastical or strange it might be…and advancing society in some way with whatever it is I’m creating…why not…

I will have to keep this in mind as I advance in my career. I always believed that I was meant to do something other than just create art, that my being a designer had some sort of significance besides just for creating art. Maybe this is it…

Entering the sculpting challenge over at gameartisans.org again. This week was side kicks. Following week is favorite female characters.

I had to look pretty hard to find female characters that were from 8 16 or 32 bit video games.

the challenge is to take an 8bit character of your choice based on a theme for that week. (This week is video game sidekicks, next week is favorite female game character)

Lost to the internet

I feel like I recently lost a good friend who I thought was different than their current behavior is showing them to be. I've worked with this "random" guy for years now and we've had a lot of good times and designed things together and he even helped me get a few jobs and I helped him get some jobs.

I recently started working with another friend of mine on a project that I had talked to them about before and thought it would end up being a fun project. My "random" friend and I were hanging out and I started talking to him about it. As it turns out the friend of mine whom I had decided to work on this project with was someone my "random" friend did not like. He explained to me how he disliked this person a bit but I didn't take it too seriously, just a friend being paranoid. Well not a week into the project my "random" friend decided to stop talking to me, blocked my emails, blocked me on skype, and removed me on the friends lists we were associated with each other on as well as delete anything on his online store that we worked on together and stopped answering phone calls.

All of that combined really kind of hurt me, one of my primary goals in life is to be good to people around me and when someone does this it makes me feel like I failed someone and since he won't talk to me I don't know what I did.

To make this worse, the last thing he said to me when I confronted him about this was and I'm paraphrasing because it was rather crude what he actually said, (I need to make money). I didn't realize our friendship was based on whether he could make money, I feel sorry for him now and I wish I could have helped him somehow.

Oh well...

Random dude feel free to talk to me again some day, I'll focus on my other friends and work projects for now. Hope all is well!

ugh, I was resisting talking about this at all, I just found out about the Casey Anthony thing yesterday. what this case reminds me of is that "Justice is blind" remembering that statue with the scales. If you are a lawyer or a police officer or a judge or whatever other career involved in law you will sometimes have to do things you feel is wrong just because the law says you have to (Such as letting someone go that you believe is guilty or even putting someone in jail you believe is innocent, both things I have personally witnessed).

From what I can tell this case was tried in court exactly the way it was supposed to, and was delivered a verdict according to what should be done considering the exact wording of every applicable law.

Do I believe she was innocent? My opinion is irrelevant. The law says she couldn't be judged guilty.

I am personally unable to witness violence of any kind without feeling ill, I can't even hunt and even fishing makes me slightly queezy...violence against people let alone children is hard for me to even think about so reading too closely into this case was difficult. As far as law goes, I trust the judgement of the individuals who's jobs it is to carry out it's enforcement but it scares me a bit how easily one can be judged for something one did not do.

I refuse to judge people if I can help it...I am just as disturbed by people crying out for blood as I am about the crime being spoken of. I spent some time in the military in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom and I was equally saddened by what our forces were forced to do against people who I was also disturbed with for what they were doing. Violence against others outside of a humorous or *horseplay* ie wrestling/video games setting is unnecessary and stupid at all times.

Been having issues relating to people around me for a very long time...sometimes I feel like I use my art in place of this and I see an artist like this who is able to communicate musically in ways that I can not. This might be a strange "emo" post but I needed to "say" something and sitting alone in my apartment, this is the best I can do...thinking about someone tonight and how much I wish I could've been there for them, how much I could've "been there" for a lot of people and wasn't...how maybe I won't ever really "be there" for anyone...

I was perusing the minecraft forums for a texture pack to check out, I don't necessarily play Minecraft all that often but I occasionally feel the need to check out mods and textures people have come up with. While searching I found a texture pack by mr Andre Jolicoeur called "Jolicraft" Further investigation led me to his website and facebook page. I won't post much more about it here so you can see his work for yourself. I was so impressed I had to blog about it! Hah!

Ok so I've had multiple friends try to talk me into using Unity in the past. It's basically a game development engine that can publish to multiple systems, PC, MAC, android, iOs, etc....

I've read about Unity for years and watched most of the tutorial videos. Decided to do a quick prop based on an old target that the Police like to use. Below is a screenshot of the Unity editor with unity bootcamp game map loaded with my prop placed and a picture of the original target I based my texture on.

Created a fan page on facebook for Darklife, the game I co-own/art direct for. Working on this a bit, receiving crits from the good people over at Pollycount.com.

I removed the road decals, going to work up the bulidings to put bases under them to emphasize the cobblestone as pathways rather than blanket flooring...

Decided to add to darklife yesterday, working on some vendors as well thinking maybe people would like to sell things on the sim.

also I think the streets look too prefab/toyset...too perfect. I rounded the corners out but that didn't help...
